Some weddings feel like a production. Coordinated and polished and perfectly executed — but somewhere in all that planning the couple gets a little lost in it.

Micah and Greg’s wedding at Ember & Altar in Polson, Montana was the opposite of that — and it’s one of my favorite weddings I’ve had the privilege of photographing as a Polson Montana wedding photographer.

They met over a poker game during college at Montana State University. Some years later, Greg got down on one knee on a backcountry ski trip up Tumalo Mountain in Oregon — their four year anniversary trip. And on June 6th, 2026 they got married surrounded by every single person who helped make that day possible.

Before guests arrived, before the ceremony, before any of it — Micah and Greg shared a private breakfast together. Just the two of them. Quiet and grounded and completely present before the day took off. I think that breakfast set the tone for everything that followed — two people who were genuinely, completely ready to get married.

The Ceremony | Ember & Altar, Polson Montana

The ceremony space at Ember & Altar sits just behind the venue — open and completely stunning. A simple arch accented with florals framed Micah and Greg with the Mission Mountains rising up in the background.

Just the mountains, their favorite people and saying yes to forever.

This was the kind of ceremony where you could feel the love between them — the kind that fills a whole space without trying.

The Reception | A Room That Felt Like Them

The reception space at Ember & Altar is something else entirely. Soaring vaulted ceilings with exposed dark wood trusses. Whitewashed shiplap walls and globe string lights draped across the full ceiling — the whole room glows. Large black framed windows and doors line the back wall letting in natural light and a glimpse of the open green fields beyond.

What made it even more special — every detail in that room was organized by Micah and her mom. Floor length white linens, dark charger plates, cream and blush hydrangea centerpieces that felt full but not fussy. A head table runner of dried and fresh florals in cream, blush and sage accented with floating candles. It looked like it was done by a professional design team but it wasn’t. It was done by people who loved them.

The Cake Topper

Details Matter — and this one stopped me in my tracks.

Micah’s sister hand carved the cake topper from air dried clay — a tiny, painted-from-scratch version of Micah, Greg, and their sweet dog Slim Jim, made to look exactly like them. The tiny, perfect versions of Micah and Greg sat on top with Slim Jim sneaking a taste off to the side — the kind of wedding day detail quietly showing you how much someone loves you.

On the Dance Floor

The Camaro

The Camaro belongs to Micah’s grandmother — and she was READY for her moment.

She encouraged (made, let’s be honest) Micah and Greg to climb up on the hood for portraits. With the Mission Mountains in the background and a classic Camaro as a prop — these photos are incredible. And then — because this family does everything together — all four grandmothers climbed up on that hood too!

It was perfect. Completely, chaotically, wonderfully perfect.

Ember & Altar — A Venue Worth Knowing

I met the owners of Ember & Altar at this wedding and I cannot say enough good things about them, their space and the experience of shooting there. They were kind, supportive and genuinely invested in making the day everything it could be.

The venue itself is stunning. Mission Mountain views, a beautiful getting ready space, a cozy and inviting space for the guys and a stunning indoor reception hall.
