Some love stories start with a grand gesture. Ryan and Liz’s started with stolen snacks on a middle school bus and continued with a surprise proposal at Glacier National Park.

Ryan had been planning this for a while. Liz had no idea.
They showed up to Apgar Village on a warm August afternoon the way any couple might — together, easy, completely normal. And then Ryan got down on one knee and six years of bus rides, phone calls, facetimes, lots of love and building a life together came down to one moment on the shore of Lake McDonald.
She had no idea it was coming. And the look on her face when it did — that’s the kind of thing you can’t plan and you can’t fake.

After the proposal we headed up Going to the Sun Road to Big Bend for engagement portraits — and as a Glacier National Park proposal photographer these are the sessions that fill my cup completely. Ryan and Liz were absolutely electric. The kind of couple who makes my job effortless. Bubbly, excited, completely in love and so genuinely happy to be there together.

We ended the evening back down at the lake — a different spot, golden hour light and two people who couldn’t stop smiling. August in Glacier is something else entirely and this session was the perfect reminder of why.
If you’re planning a surprise proposal in Glacier National Park and want every moment documented honestly — from the anticipation to the moment it all unfolds — I’d love to help you pull it off as your Glacier National Park proposal photographer. Let’s talk →
